I'm trying hard not to get too sentimental these days, you know, just keep things light. But sometimes, life has a way of nudging your heartstrings, reminding you of the beautiful cycle of time. Kids grow up, start their own families, and before you know it, you're witnessing the next generation. Some days, it just hits harder than usual. This session was no exception.
I've known Delaney since she was around 14 years old. We went to Oregon with the All-Star Softball Team she was on. I was, of course, taking photos, while my daughter was the bat girl. That summer was filled with adventure and joy, and I cherish those memories deeply. Fast forward to now, and here she is, all grown up, married with a big, beautiful family of her own.
I absolutely loved every second of this photo session. Each of her kids had such unique personalities, and I dived right in, trying to capture their individual spirits. Growing up in a family with three siblings myself, I know how easy it is for one to feel left out. So, I made it my mission to include each one, making them feel special while also capturing the dynamic of the entire family.
And let's not forget the couple shots! As we all know, once kids enter the picture, it’s hard to find time to just enjoy being a couple. So, I made sure to get plenty of shots of just the two of them, celebrating their bond and love.
The light that day was magical, casting a gorgeous glow on the family. By the end of the session, little Caiden told me, "You're really nice," and that just about melted me. See, beneath my tough, no-fuss exterior, I really am a softy after all.
In the end, it's these moments – capturing the essence of a family, the love, the laughter, and the unique quirks of each member – that make my job so fulfilling. It’s a reminder that while time moves on, and kids grow up, the memories we create and capture will always stay with us. And that, my friends, is the true magic of photography.
