My last senior session of the year. Bittersweet. This has honestly been one of the best senior seasons I’ve ever had. Not just because I photographed more seniors than usual, but because I really got to stretch my creative brain and try some new things.

I’ll admit it, I’m comfortable at the Mission. That’s my go-to. I know every nook and cranny, and I can shoot there in my sleep. But when I ask seniors where they want to do their photos, most of them say, “Not the Mission.” It gets used a lot, and I get that, but I still love it.

So when Lulu told me she wanted her photos done at the Prison Housing in Lompoc, I was a little confused. I found myself wondering, “What the heck is even there?” But when I arrived and she explained why she felt so connected to that spot, especially the trees, I listened.

And she was right. The location ended up being perfect for her. The light, the texture, the quiet, it all worked. I hadn’t realized how pretty it was back there, but I totally saw what she meant. I loved the trees too.

Lulu was an absolutely stunning senior to photograph, and I really enjoyed chatting with her and her mom throughout the session.

Thank you, Lulu, for trusting me to capture this special time.
