It’s not often I get asked to do family sessions at home, unless there’s a newborn involved. But when the Gowins family said they wanted their beloved dog, Bleu, to be a part of every moment, home made perfect sense.
And what a backdrop. Their place had charm in spades, sunny corners, cozy nooks, and all the warmth of a lived-in, love-filled home.
Now, about Bleu. This pup was not thrilled about having a stranger with a camera on his turf. I tried the usual: crouching, coaxing, offering my best “I come in peace” energy. He responded with solid side-eye and a quick retreat. Honestly, he dodged the lens better than most toddlers.
But the Gowins family? Absolute pros. Warm, natural, and full of smiles. They made the session easy, minus the part where I was basically auditioning for a canine trust-building exercise.
Just as we were wrapping up, I managed to catch Bleu in a brief moment of calm. Click. Got it. A few precious frames that captured his stubborn charm and the love that clearly surrounds him.
Every family has their own rhythm, and this one was full of heart. Even if one furry member made me work for it.
Thank you, Gowins family, for trusting me to capture this special time.
