I knew this senior season would tug at my heartstrings, but the bittersweet moments have surprised me. Many of these seniors grew up with my daughter, and now they are ready to graduate.
Jayden was one of those “I remember when you were knee-high to a grasshopper” kids. I remembered her sass from those days, and I was delighted to see it still there, now wrapped in poise and good looks. She showed up with her best friend, her mom, and little sister, ready to explore the garden. The light was excellent, the place was nearly empty, and Jayden was willing to indulge my “What if we tried this?” moments, complete with the occasional side-eye before going along with me.
That’s the beauty of sessions like this. Sometimes the idea shines; sometimes it flops. But every so often, the client becomes the muse. Jayden, you were exactly that—funny, radiant, and a joy to photograph.
If you’re a senior preparing for your own session, bring your personality, your people, and don’t shy away from the photographer’s “brilliant” ideas. Worst case, you get a story out of it. Best case, it’s pure gold.
